Terms of Use
The rules of the place. Short, and meant to be read.
Version 2026-09-14 · This is the version you agree to when you sign up.
The short version
- Log what you actually did. Nothing else.
- One person, one account.
- Use a first name and an initial, not your full name.
- Points are a game. They are not money and cannot be exchanged for anything.
- Be decent to the people in your class.
1. What this is
KiloWatt Club is a free app for logging everyday energy- and water-saving actions and seeing what they add up to. It is educational. The numbers it shows — kWh, CO₂, litres, rupees — are estimates from published averages, not measurements of your home.
Do not use them for anything that matters financially. In particular, the bill calculator is a teaching tool built on the Karnataka LT-1 domestic tariff; the bill your supplier actually issues is the real one, and if the two disagree, they are right.
2. Who can use it
Anyone can, but if you are under 18 you need a parent or guardian to agree first. If you joined with a school code, your school should already have that agreement from them — see the Privacy Policy.
3. Your account
- One person, one account. Extra accounts made to farm points will be removed, and so will the points.
- Keep your password to yourself. Anything done from your account is treated as done by you.
- Use an email address you can actually get into — it is the only way to recover the account.
- Do not sign in as someone else, or use a classmate's account, even with their permission.
4. Fair play
When you sign up you take the pledge. It is short and it is the heart of these terms: only log things you have actually done.
Every point is worked out by the server from the action you logged, so the numbers cannot be edited from a phone. What no software can check is whether you really turned the light off. That part is on you, and the whole thing is worthless if people fake it.
If points are gained dishonestly, a teacher or an administrator can correct the score, reset it, or remove the account from a class.
5. Names and behaviour
Your display name is seen by everyone in your class. Use a first name and an initial. Do not use your full name, your address, your phone number, an insult, or anything you would not say in front of a teacher. A teacher can change a name that is not suitable and lock it.
There is no chat, no comments and no way to message another user. The two things you can put in front of other people are that name and, if you choose to, a story.
Stories are short written accounts of something you tried. Every story is read by a reviewer before anyone else can see it, and a reviewer can decline it or take it down later without giving a reason beyond a short note. In a story, use only your own first name; do not name anyone else, say where anyone lives, or include contact details or links. Write about what you did, and keep it kind. You keep the right to remove your own story at any time. By sending one for review you allow us to show it to other members in your school or the public community for as long as it stays published.
6. Things you must not do
- Fake actions, fake bills, or extra accounts.
- Write a story about, or naming, anyone but yourself, or one that is unkind, untrue, or contains contact details.
- Try to break, overload or get around the app's security, or access anyone else's data.
- Use automated tools to log actions or read data.
- Copy the app or its content and pass it off as your own.
- Share a class join code outside the class it belongs to.
7. Classes, teachers and schools
Whoever creates a class runs it. In a school, only staff can create classes. A teacher can rename the class, change its join code, correct a member’s display name, remove a member, and end a season — which resets everyone’s season score while keeping their lifetime totals. Teachers and school admins also review the stories written by people at their school before they are published.
Leaving or being removed from a class does not delete your account or your lifetime points; you keep both.
8. Points are not money
Points, badges, levels and streaks have no monetary value, cannot be bought, sold or transferred, and can be adjusted or reset — for example at the end of a season, or to correct cheating. Nothing here is a prize or a promise of one. If a school runs a competition with real prizes, that is the school’s competition and their rules apply to it, not ours.
9. Availability
The app is provided as it is, free, with no guarantee that it will be available, or correct, or that data will never be lost. We will take reasonable care, and you can download a copy of your data whenever you like from Settings. For anything you would be upset to lose, keep your own copy.
10. Ending it
You can delete your account at any time from Settings, and it is immediate and permanent. We may suspend or remove an account that breaks these terms, and will say why unless there is a good reason not to.
11. Changes
If these terms change in a way that matters, the version at the top changes and you will be asked to read and agree again before carrying on.
12. Law and contact
These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts at Bengaluru, Karnataka have jurisdiction.
